Although Vampirella is obviously a graphic medium - she couldn't exist without strong writers. And Vampi has that - in spades. In September 1999 Will Eisner (creator of The Spirit) gave a talk in Gothenberg, Sweden, where he is quoted to have said "The reality is that comic books are no longer a novelty. It is no longer just enough to be a 'comic book' in order to earn reader patronage. Story value will now dominate ..." I was delighted to hear this, as I've always felt that the real successes are those where the story is powerful, dramatic and strong. In order to have a great story you need great writers. And that is what this section is all about. But how can you choose a few from the 43 people who have all written for Vampirella in one form or another? Do you pick those who wrote the most, or those who wrote landmark issues? Who is to say which are landmark issues anyway? |

The answer is - I have selected nine of my personal favourites, regretfully leaving out some who wrote great stories and some who wrote a great number - but I had to choose. These writers are giants in the business, many moving on from Vampirella to write classic stories in comics that are the epitome of superb writing today. For some their biographies can be found in some of the Warren and Harris comics, for others you will have to search for information |

But all are masters of the graphic medium, and all demonstrate the art of storytelling in ways that will be remembered as the lifeblood of the greatness of Vampirella - now and forever. |
