Mark Millar, together with co-writer Grant Morrison, launched Vampi in the new direction that Vampirella Monthly took in November 1997. Like Morrison, his fellow Englishman, Miller brought a new hard edge to Vampirella that had been missing before. Who can deny the undercurrents of violence that ran through A Cold Day in Hell in Vampirella Strikes #6 and Ascending Evil. This was a new-look Vampirella, not so much in the character herself but in the enemies she was now facing. Gone forever were the demons who didn't really frighten and the gangsters that acted like Hollywood film stars acting out their roles. Characters like von Kreist and the revived Blood Red Queen of Hearts not only looked really evil, but did evil things. |

| His time on Vampirella may have been short, and his output can hardly be said to have been prodigious (in other words it wasn't very much) but his influence with his writing partner was immense. | |
