The very early promotional material consisted of stapled photocopies (or that's what it looks like) of partly-completed art and some promotional text. I have included a couple of these, plus some later promotional flyers. The standard is very variable, and gives us an insight into the rich variety of methods used to ensure that comic shops get enough copies to keep us happy and Harris Comics successful. |

1992 One of the earliest pieces of promotional material, with several pages of straight text (some is exactly the same as the text in the earliest Harris Hotline). The photocopy on the right is a very nice black and white version of the cover to Vampirella #1. |
1993 No prizes for originality and design for the cover here (on the left) but at least it tells us who it is. A stronger text column (right) explains the successes of 1992 and then promotes what is coming in 1993. Some nice black and white art in this one. |

1994 Okay - this is almost a precursor of the ashcans seen later. This is an initial A4 sized black and white publication introducing the Chains of Chaos storyline. On the right you can see the way the characters are introduced in the book. |

October 1994 A double sheet flyer here, with front on the left and back on the right. Inside (not shown) is a full page Buzz pic of Vampirella from the ShadowHawk crossover. Note the promotion for Vampirella Classic #1 on the bottom right of the back cover - it's that classic Frazetta cover for Warren's Vampirella #1. |
February 1997 Quality single page flyer for the Vampirella Lives series. On the back (seen here on the right) is that fabulous variant Adam Hughes cover that was to have been featured on the Vampirella Classic trade paperback that was never published. |
Vampirella/Shi This isn't a genuine piece of retailer promotional material because it was written for members of the Scarlet Legion. It describes why the chrome edition of the Vampirella/Shi crossover is going to be late. Some nice art accompanied this promo, as witness the cover on the right. |
Blood Lust The Blood Lust promo is a black and white collection of what appear to be photocopies, with a few guidelines for the printers (I assume). Not exactly exciting, but a collector's piece none-the-less. Or it could be proofs from the printer that have been okay'd. |
Vampirella/Painkiller Jane The Painkiller Jane crossover was promoted using this rather amateurish (or rushed which is more likely) promo. On the right is a page from inside this promo, with the words "Fix around balloons - panels 1 & 2" still visible on the photocopy. |
Hell on Earth A one-page promo promoting the Hell on Earth series from the Vampirella Monthly series. On the right is an enlargement demonstrating the 1:5 ratio for retailers receiving the alternate cover for ordering 5 copies or more. |
Vampirella's Vampi Here she is - the dynamic Vampi (or Vampirella's Vampi as she is known inside the cover of the ashcan). This poster came with Wizard #105 along with a 4-page article inside which previews the dramatic Kevin Lau art. |
