Vampirella Magazines |
|
Vampirella first appeared in a magazine format when Jim Warren published the third of his group of black and white magazines in 1969. The reasoning behind this move was to avoid the censorship of the Comics Code, because black and white magazines were not bound by the Code, which was still pretty powerful in 1964 when Creepy, the first of his horror black and whites, emerged. Warren's Vampirella magazine ran until issue #112 in January 1983, then his company went bankrupt. Apart from the very first Harris publication on Vampirella, Vampirella #113, Vampi was only seen in comic book format until 2003 (I am not here including the Harris reprints of Warren's issue #1 which were published in 2001). Then - WOW - a new magazine exploded onto the Vampirella world in October 2003. It looked very similar to those original Warrens (nostalgia for old folks like me) and featured new stories, articles, fan letters and just all things Vampi. |
