Bloodaxe Books is Britain's premier poetry publisher, with an international reputation for quality in literature and excellence in book production and design. Founded in Newcastle in 1978, Bloodaxe is based in Northumberland's Tarset valley, with a sales office in North Wales. Its editor, Neil Astley, is a Visiting Fellow in the School of English at Newcastle University. With its bold and diverse stable of new and established British, Irish, American, European and Commonwealth writers, Bloodaxe has revolutionised poetry publishing in Britain. Its authors and books have won virtually every major literary award given to poetry, from the Pulitzer to the Nobel Prize for Literature. FLAMBARD Margaret and Peter Lewis set up Flambard in 1990 as a small, independent press offering opportunities to new and neglected writers, especially in the North of England. From the outset Flambard has been keen to nourish developing talent. Poetry came first and is still the backbone of the list, but Flambard now publishes a small amount of fiction as well. Flambard is supported by Northern Arts. Diamond Twig is a small press that was first launched in 1992 to publish new writing by women in the North East of England. They promote poetry and other writing in innovative, exciting ways, such as the Blue Room readings, held on a monthly basis in Newcastle. Darlington small press, publishing 'quality books and pamphlets of contemporary poetry' including work by Joanna Boulter, Bob Cooper, Lyn Moir and Peter Rafferty. The magazine for women who write. A highly-successful blend of articles and new writing by some of the finest women writers in the country. The Tower, one of the oldest continously-operating poetry venues in the country, now has its own website. This is where the live reading scene really began with performances by Basil Bunting, Ed Dorn, Allen Ginsberg, Hugh MacDiarmid and a host of others.
