Seems that I have to state my politics as some
people seem hell bent of branding me one thing or the other depending on
their projection (negative or positive). You
can see how my values are formed from looking at my likes and dislikes. I
do have values that are unshakeable but are often revisited (otherwise one
could become very bigoted perhaps).
- Freedom of Speech and of expression.
I quit one job because they wanted to control what I said, what I
thought.
This however also goes to the root of my beliefs, that diversity is
something to be cherished, that no one should shut you up.
- This does have some down sides of
course like what you say about yourself is part of the first
impressions of you and those your represent. The freedom to open
you mouth, gives you the freedom to make a complete fool of
yourself and to give others the opportunity to challenge them.
- Another down side is that freedom
comes with responsibility, like when it is incitement and
stimulating crime. This can be found in places like Northern
Ireland when the extremist on either side goad the others,
in Bradford UK where the BNP (Nazis if you like) incited the
unrest in an already troubled town. Where the cops would not
arrest and non-white because that was racist. When a head
teacher years before said there was a problem (kill the
messenger) he was falsed to quit his job by the Council for
Racial Equality (from which he won £20k compensation). The only
snag with CRE is that it work only one way, and when you have
Racial abuse/attacks/abuse from non-whites to whites being
perfectly legal as the Racism is defined only in one
direction in the UK. And before you say it does not
happen, I was the victim of racial abuse and the cops told me
they were helpless. So without a level playing field or Equality
of Justice you can see why extreme action can happen.
- People think that can publish 'lists'
of people.
This is where there exists lists of 'known' (choose your
category: WP/Perverts/Commies/Devils).
First off you do not know the integrity of such lists, for
examples is the person really a a gay killing WP thug, or a Whip
Power fetishist who just wanted to be kept under some Skinheads
boots as he projects all his WP fantasies on to him. The reader
of this list will project onto the list as well, this must
obviously be the most evil WP thugs in the world, so better kill
some 'for the cause'.
The same was true of the killing of the famous Black Activist Malcom
X he was 'Marked for Death' in such a list my the current
leader of the "Nation of Islam" (who also has very
dark skin) but is a rabid racist, with irrational hatred of
Jews, Gays and said that Hitler was a good man, someone he
looked up to - It is not just the views such as these that had
be barred form entry into the UK since the 1960s, but it is the
incitement that follows his speeches.
Then what of Fatwha's issued by Ayatollahs. For example against
Salmon Rushti who wrote a book that one religious group did not
like and so issued a request that anyone who kills him
will surely go to heaven and will be doing the faith a good
turn.
To me the book which has won many prizes show that their faith
is no strong enough to face such a challenge from a work of
FICTION. This is so often the case in countries like China where
the administration is so insecure that kill off any opposition,
because they are not there by popular choice.
- Equality
This is not just Racial Equality, Gay Equality, Sexual
Equality.
There is the notion that justice is blind. But so rarely is this
the case if politicians get involved. For examples in a case of a
child murderer (an 8yo killed a 3 yo) the judge set a jail sentence,
and when the term was due to end, the popular press sensationalized a
story about it, and the politicians went to over ride the judges to
gain popular favour and more votes. To me this is disgusting, does
that means you have to go and adjust all the others peoples sentences
that are in jail as well ?
I find discrimination damaging to your society.
It often is the case that you discriminate in favour of 'your own
kind' because you are comfortable with people that think/say/do/speak
just like you. But how this translates is that you could miss some
very talented people because of they were gay or black or old or
young.
I have lots of Black friends incedently.
- Multiculturalism
I like the wide mix of Cultures in the UK, it add a richness to our
own (all very Borge like).
I like all the additional Celebration that come with that, all the new
foods. You can contrast this with looking in the local vegetable
shop in an area that was 'very British' and that with a
ethnic population - the choice of interesting new (cheap)
foods is there to explore.
When in Rome - Do as the Romans do...
What I do not like is that if you are going to call yourself
British (or American or German etc) is that you claim to be British,
demanding all the rights thereof - but cannot speak English, and
reject the British culture.
Its ok to do that if you are just a traveler working in the UK - but
you cannot claim one the bits of the host country you want and despise
the rest. For example, the UK has a tradition of (Intellectual, and
gay if you were rich) Tolerance so you cannot come to the UK and try
and convert it to Muslim ways of hiding the body and censoring
everything. The UK welcomes all religions and yet compare it to a
Saudi or UAE country where your very unmuslim behaviors is not tolerated
- that is you have to be have as a token Muslim, a native of that
country. So expect the same in any host country. In many western
countries the same is acceptable, but to cherish your roots and your
culture.
