Once I'd been a dog for a while I noticed that it was very difficult to get the accessories that a dog needs to feel complete, a collar is easy and with a bit of looking about you can find a good stainless steel bowl that you can actually manage to eat out of (Trying them out for size in the pet shop is fun *grin*)

So what else does a dog have to have to feel complete, well paws and a tail are essential! I eventually found very nice lockable, padded fist mitts from Fetters (they do very good head harnesses too), these work great and you can walk on them on hard floors for hours, I'm still trying to get some leather knee pads made though, using roller-blade ones at the moment.

All that was left to get was a tail. All the tails I could find were horse tails, these are not at all like dog tails, so I decided I'd try to make my own!

A dog tail has to fit right inside, so the dog can feel his tail at all times, also he has to be able to wag it and it has to be flexible enough to be sat on comfortably, but spring back straight afterwards.

I made the tail out of the bits in this picture:

• A length of bicycle inner tube,
• 2 rubber balls from a pet shop 
• An external 10mm micro-bore pipe bending spring from B&Q.

Once the balls are pushed into the inner tube (the big ball needs lube and lots of effort) the ball end was sealed by gluing the thumb off an old pair of rubber gloves over it. Then the spring is inserted in the other end and the inner tube stretched tight.
A small nylon cable tie was tightened over the end of the inner tube to fix it, the spare tube cut off and the last inch or so folded back over to make a neat end.

It's important to put a slight kink in the spring about 2" from the balls, otherwise if you sit down directly on the end the spring doesn't bend and the tail is pushed very deep into your arse, not a pleasant experience, this pup learned the hard way :(
