This was the first match of the second half of the league season and The Dream Team need to win all remaining matches to secure promotion. The match was never as close as the score suggests although the team got off to a bad start when 'Bomber' Harris lost the first game 1-2. Bob did not throw badly but his opponent threw better. Jeff 'No Fear' Tune threw at number two and lost the first leg despite a 120 break with his first three darts. This seemed to spur Jeff into action and he won the next including a 140. In the last leg Jeff moved up another gear breaking with 80, following it up with a 95 and then finishing 126 (19,57,Bull) to win in nine darts.
The Old Bill went in at number three, throwing steady darts but eventually losing 1-2. Alan Smith finally managed to overcome his finishing problems with an emphatic 2-0 win. At number five came Deano Willis who had not won a leg in league games but who was undefeated in cup games. When he lost the first leg it looked as though he would continue his league form but he responded well and took advantage of some weak play by his opponent to win 2-1. Match score now 3-2. Big 'M' Mark Franks did not throw to his best form at number six but still managed to win 2-0. John 'Smokey' Savage made a welcome, if slightly contraversial, return to the team at number seven, throwing steady darts to win 2-0.
The match was won but the number of games won and lost makes a difference in the league so there could be no relaxing. 'Cowboy' Dave Downes threw at number eight, lost the first leg but lost the second. In the decider he raced to his double before his opponent had broken but could not finish. In the end he threw a total of 51 darts, 36 of them at a double, but lost the leg and the game. Captain 'Bulldog' Terry Galt again took the number nine spot and won the first leg quite easily. He lost the second and could not break in the last losing the game 1-2.
The team now have to play the second of their cup quarter finals, this time in the Alf Austin Cup. Their opponents will be Premier League leaders The Digby away. The format of this cup, nine legs of 501 straight start, may help The Dream Team to reach their second semi final of the season.
