12 January 1998 - The White Hart (Away) - Won 5-4

After two disappointing results in the league The Dream Team were faced with a difficult match in the second round of the Alf Austin Cup against the second division leaders, The White Hart. The format of this cup is different from other league and cup matches being 9 games of singles, one leg 501 straight start double finish.

First up was Bob 'Bomber' Harris who threw well but struggled to finish, losing his leg. Jeff 'No Fear' Tune made a welcome return at number two and his first four throws of 60, 100, 100, 100 were magnificent. He then took a further 15 darts to close the leg but managed to hang on to win. Deano Willis came next and at times his lack of confidence resulting from poor league form seemed to affect his darts. He rallied though and closed out the leg well. The Old Bill Townsend threw at number four, scoring well but struggling with his double. He too managed to hold on to win putting the match score at 3-1.

'Big M' Mark Franks threw very well at number five winning his leg comfortably. At number six came Alan Smith who coasted down to his favorite double but failed to finish, losing the leg to leave the score at 4-2. The captain had to choose between Simon 'The Webmaster' Moss and Steve 'The Dart' Davies at number seven. He chose Steve who rose to the challenge well. Steve threw steady darts and, despite some appalling luck, managed to win the leg and the match.

With the match won, and a quarter final place guaranteed, it has to be said that neither 'Cowboy' Dave Downes nor 'Bulldog' Terry Galt threw with any real conviction both losing to leave the final score at 5-4. Nevertheless this represents a significant win which The Dream Team will wish to build upon in their league games. The season is only half over and the team are 3rd or 4th in the league and in the quarter finals of both major cups. Keep up the good work!!
