Preamble
Pillar boxes started to appear from the 1850s and we have one of these early
constructibns left. Some late Victorian wall boxes still remain but those of Edward VII
and George V are rare. Being a rural area, the telephone was relatively late in appearing;
whereas Stratford had telephones in 1900, this area had to wait until about 1913.
