| This poster probably referred to a General
Election or even a bye-election: it could not have been a county council election as such
a council did not then exist. A 'bludgeon' was a heavy club, presumably intended to break up an opponent's meetings. Mr. Shirley evidently wished it to be known that any blame lay at his opponent's door. The very existence of such goings-on might have been credible in a large city - but South Warwickshire! |
