GEORGE THOMAS d. February, 1939.

George Thomas was one of the most well-known men in Alcester in the three decades before World War 11. As a solicitor he was known by many families but outside his law work he took a very full part in the social life of the town. He acted as Clerk to the local Guardians as well as Clerk to the Alcester Rural District Council. He also occupied the position of High Bailiff.

The local press stated that he was 'a man of unusual ability' in legal matters and local government.

The wide esteem in which he was held was borne out by the many organisations in South Warwickshire which were represented at the funeral service in St. Nicholas church. Past residents of Alcester who have reached retirement age will undoubtedly remember Mr. Thomas.
