It has long been a mystery at what date the buildings which surrounded Alcester church were demolished; their name was 'The Shop Row'. We believe that they went sometime towards the end of the l8th century but no documentary evidence appears in manorial or church records. If any reader can throw any light, please tell the Editor.
Timber houses built on cruck construction are rare in this area. One at Alcester we know of and one at Walcote. There may be others hidden away in-side houses and we would be very grateful to be informed about theme
It has often been said that property deeds tell us much about the history of a place. In Alcester especially we have been shown various series going back to the 17th and 18th centuries. There are probably many more in the area covered by A.D.L.H.S. which we do not know about. An opportunity to examine such deeds would be very much welcomed. Please make the Editor's day.'
