Mr.Dennis Malin of Bidford writes to express his sadness at the imminent closure of Bidford School. ' I was a pupil there in the years just after the war, when food was in short supply; in the bad winter of '47 we had no potatoes and no coke for the boilers; consequently we had several weeks enforced holiday. It was really make do and mend then the wood we had for woodwork was worm-eaten and anyone who lived a distance away could hire a 'school bike' for a ridiculously low fee. In the autumn we went potato picking; half of what we earned went to school funds and the rest we kept. We also picked rose hips for rose hip syrup. In those days the school outing usually took us to Cheddar Caves: we looked forward to it and even the teachers became human for a few hours. When the school gates close for the last time I for one will feel a pang of sadness'.
