• 1st Century A.D. Arawak, Amerindians probably settled in Grenada, from what is now the Amazon basin
  
• 1498 Christopher Columbus sight Grenada on his third voyage and names it Concepción.
  
• 1609 English attempt to settle and colonise resisted by Caribs.
  
• 1638 French attempt to settle and colonise resisted by Caribs.
  
• 1651 French conquer Caribs many of whom jump of cliffs at, "Caribs Leap" in Sauters (p.b.G. Su - tehs)
  
• 1674 Grenada officially become a French colony under the crown.
  
• 1700 First census, 257 Whites, 525 Slaves, 53 Free Coloureds.
  
• 1705 - 1710 Fort Royal constructed.
  
• 1738 First hospital constructed.
  
• 1763 Grenada ceded to English at Treaty of Paris
  
• 1779 Island recaptured by the French.
  
• 1783 Grenada ceded to English at Treaty of Versailles.
  
• 1783 Grenada chronicle first published.
  
• 1795 Fedon Rebellion.
  
• 1832 Free Coloureds receive civil and political rights.
