Technologies developed by Mecon
Mecon has developed technologies with applications in a number of fields. These include:
- A radio-frequency leak detection system for buried pipework. Patented technology.
- An acoustic array for finding leaks in water mains from the ground surface. Patented technology.
- Ultrasonic sensor arrays for condition assessment of buried water mains. The arrays are mounted in an autonomous, untethered vehicle (a "pig"), which is inserted into a main and will scan several kilometres of pipe wall at a time. The arrays detect corrosion, cracks, pipe size and wall thickness, linings, and the presence of joints, take-offs, valves etc.
- A many-degree-of-freedom detuner or "mass damper". This passive (unpowered) device passively reduces periodic vibrations of machinery or structures.
