We will not wholesale products which are labelled as genetically modified. Current legislation requires GM products to be labelled and any food that contains protein or DNA of GM origin. Oils, lecithin and other processed ingredients are exempt from labelling because GM protein and DNA are deemed to be absent.

Goodness Foods is fully committed to ensure that all the products which we supply are totally GM free, and to this end we seek guarantees from all our suppliers. Our definition of `genetically modified' includes ingredients and material derived from GM sources, even where these do not have to be declared according to current legislation.

We are pleased therefore to be able to state that Goodness Foods is totally GM free across the whole range of branded foods according to our suppliers' guarantees.

The current position regarding the source of ingredients used in Quest products, is that we are confident that all materials are from non-GM sources, except for vitamin E.

Quest currently obtain vitamin E from Cognis (formerly Henkel) and we are advised that the material we use could include distillate obtained from GM soya crops. Though it is far more likely that the vitamin E used by Quest is sourced from corn, rape, sunflower and cotton crops. Whilst some of these crops are certified non-GM, there is no reliable segregation of crops and/or processes.

Due to the uncertainly, Qust is advising that we cannot guarantee the source material to be GM free, but that it is certainly free of the GM-DNA fraction.

With the current awareness of GM ingredients, we have increased the frequency of our due diligence tests on relevant suppliers to ensure we are aware of developments.

Finally, I would like to assure you that Quest is committed to ensuring that all new raw materials are checked to ensure that they do not contain GM derivatives and are not sourced from a genetically modified crop. Rutivite and Aloe Vera D/S contain maize starch. we are investigating a potato-based substitute to enable them to be labelled GMO Free. Hemp Seed Oil capsules contain natural source Vitamin E (Covitol). When we have assurances (from our supplier) that the goal of GM Free supplies has been attained we will label accordingly. Cranberry contains Xylitol which may be derived from maize. I am awaiting information from the raw material suplier regarding the origin.

We are confident that all materials are GMO-free, except for vitamin E. The material we use could include distillate from a `gm' soy crop, though it is far more likely to be sourced from `certified non-gm' corn, rape, sunflower and cotton crops.
