StarTAC mr501 from Orange: DISCONTINUED May 1999

At first glance it looks like a fashion accessory... or anything but a phone. Only when it's opened is its true identity revealed, a solid, hand-sized cellular phone which is comfortable to hold and exceptionally easy to use. A truly "wearable" phone, it can be clipped onto a belt, slipped discreetly into a top pocket or even hung on a cord around your neck.

On the mr501 a Ni-MH battery is standard and it can stand-by for 45 hours or supply 110 minutes of continuous talk time. The StarTAC come supplied as standard with a UK / European charger and a belt worn phone holster.

• Disadvantages: software not as easy to use as Nokia handsets, lacks support for conference calling and EFR, enhanced sound capability
