Tai Chi Chuan is an ancient art of gentle relaxed body movement. It evolved many centuries ago in the East, yet it provides a source of great personal health and strength for many in the complexities of our Western society today.
Tai Chi practice consists of a series of slow movements which together make up a particular 'form'. These movements are designed to assist the 'chi' energy to circulate around the body. In training Tai Chi, the movements must be relaxed, slow and performed at a constant speed. It is unique in that, unlike other forms of exercise, it does not cause panting or breathlessness; indeed breathing deepens as tension is released.
Tai Chi can be practised by anyone, regardless of their age, sex or physical condition. Many people take it up late in life and find that it helps them to regain lost health and strength. Each individual experiences different benefits from training Tai Chi, reflecting their own needs.
