If you are interested in pottery and stoneware you may have already seen some of the items produced by Richmond Pottery in any number of craft shops and galleries throughout the United Kingdom and indeed continental Europe.

Richmond Pottery was established by Andrew Russell who learnt his craft in 1987 whilst working in the studio of a well established potter. As his natural ability blossomed he decided to venture forth and establish his own workshop.

Andrew's hand made pottery is produced from a variety of techniques. Best quality Staffordshire clay is fired at high temperatures vitrifying the clay to imbue the finished articles with the long life and durability necessary for practical oven-to-table kitchen ware. This same process also gives a feel of permanence to his more individual pieces some of which are produced solely for aesthetic appreciation.

Andrew continually experiments with new ideas and methods; a process that produces some beautiful and original pieces of contemporary ceramics. The variation in design coupled with an extensive range of glazes results in strong vibrant pottery fully reflective of his refreshing and exciting approach to his craft.

Andrew has extended his craft by working closely with other local artists such as Ian Scott-Massie and Mackenzie Thorpe who has experimented with a three dimensional art form. Collaboration with the former through a distinctive combination of form and colour has produced some stunning art works.

Most of the pottery produced at the workshop is destined for shops and galleries. Andrew also undertakes commissions for private clients and in this context has produced complete dinner services and made to measure individually designed pieces.
