EDITORIAL

Welcome to the Autumn Edition of Tynedalesman. On this occasion I am going to use this editorial to make an appeal to the membership. You will have read by now of the award of a large grant to the STRPS to repair 3 major structures between Kirkhaugh and Lintley. In accepting the grant we have committed ourselves to extra expenditure. Whilst further grants for the footpath, fencing and Lintley platform maybe forthcoming we will not be able to obtain financial assistance for ballast, sleepers and rail. It is estimated that we will need to find about £50K from our own resources. In the current financial climate further bank loans or major overdrafts are unlikely to be granted. We are therefore asking if there are any members who would be willing if the need does arise to lend money to the Society. The precise terms of any loans would be negotiated on an individual basis. At this stage the Treasurer would be interested to hear from any member who would be prepared to consider a loan if the need actually arises. Complete confidentiality is assured . The sooner we can open the extension the sooner we will be earning extra revenue.

In the meantime I would like to close by wishing all members of the STRPS a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

The MAGAZINE OF THE SOUTH TYNEDALE RAILWAY PRESERVATION SOCIETY is published each Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The views expressed by individuals in this magazine may not necessarily reflect the official views or current policies of the STRPS.
