2010 Operating Season Now Started!

Easter weekend saw the commencement of regular passenger services which will now run through to October 2010. In addition the railway will operate its ever popular Santa Specials on selected days in December.

Winter maintenance has seen a section of line re-laid to the north of the new carriage shed, points repaired in the yard area at Alston, and some work to consolidate sections of the South Tyne Trail both near to Alston Station and also Gilderdale Viaduct. The infrastructure teams will now be heading north to continue the push towards Lintley.

The Operating Department has also been busy over the winter with diesel No.4’s overall completed and the locomotive returned to service in a new grey livery, and with steam locomotive No.10 Naklo returning to service over the Easter holidays. In the carriage works a start has been made on painting the new bird-cage passenger brake van and it is hoped that the “new” buffet coach will arrive later this month.
