Really enjoyed looking around your site. I was born in Orwell and spent a lot of time around wimpole Park but the hospital was not there in my youth. My parents lived at the Park when they first married. Yours are the first pictures I have ever seen. I am encouraged to look for more. Great stuff, thaks a lot. Steve Merry

Your Web page about the history of the Yorke Family is excellent. Having written one myself, I know quite a bit about this illustrious and prolific family, but you have provided even more details. Cheers from across the Pond!

My Dad was stationed at Wimpole Park from 1956-1959. I am the only one in our family who would remember anything about the place. I do remember the gate, and the Almhouse that sat across from the site. I spent some time in the hospital there briefly. (I was 9, I think). One of my brothers was born there. I also remember that we had a Christmas party on base. I still have some of the gifts I received there. I remember the small commissary. I remember some organization sponsoring trips for dependent kids. One trip was to London to see the newly released movie, 'The Ten Commandments.' Another was a river trip on the Thames, which included a tour of Windsor Castle.
Thanks for your website. Nancy Taylor Woods

I was born there on Sept. 4, 1953 when my father, Sgt. E. C. McEltree was stationed there. Also, Sgt. Blaine Norton was stationed there at the same time and their daughter Ellen (Tracy, Jr.) was born early in 1954. She lives in Lousiana, her email is ETRACY@AOL.com, if she hasn't contacted you as well.

My brother sent me this website - this is great! I was born at Wimpole Park in June of 1954. I have met one other person at all places - a Tupperware party - that was born at Wimpole Park. I heard my hostess' mother saying all the key phrases 'not on the map' 'Place where the military wives had their babies'. If I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

Was pleased to find your web site. Brought back many happy memories from when I was based with the 7510 USAF Hosp, 1955 to 1958. The seamstress talked of traveling to England on the USS Darby. I shipped over on the USS Darby in 1955, was a real fun time. Hope to read more comments from 7510th people as time goes by. Thanks for the space to share memories.

Our youngest son Kelly, was born in 59 at Wimpole Park. I tried to show him where and found that it had been torn down. I didn't remember hearing about it being closed in spite of being stationed at RAF Weathersfield. Oh well, time marches on, Good site! does anyone have any pictures of the old hospital?

Fond thoughts of Wimpole Park, Arrington, Lady Bainbridge and the Kipling Estates remain with me these 40-odd years later. Those closing days at the base were strange brew indeed. I often wonder of the whereabouts of my companions there and would love to hear from any and all of them.

I was born at the USAF Hospital (Wimpole Park) in Oct. 1959. My parents recollection of the area is a little fuzzy (and they didn't have any photos), so it's was nice to find this website. I've always been curious as to what the place looked like. Thanks for your efforts.

(Arrington) I was born at Wimpole Park, Aug 1957, and had the pleasure to visit the hospital site in Jun 90. By then the Air Force hospital had been completely removed and the estate presumably returned to its pre-WWII configuration. It was satisfying to finally return to the place I've often written down on many 'official forms' but could not recall.
My sister, Pamela, was also born at Wimpole Park, Oct 58.

My Sister-in-law and I have been doing a family history for many years and when we came across your web site we thought we had hit the jackpot. In our two families the names of Bullens,Wilmott,Merry,Pearce,Prime plus the Debenhams from Suffock and the Buttress/Platt from Fulburne/Longstanton & Sanderson from Melbourn the families have crossed many time over generations and came to Australia in the 1850's gold rush. The Chronicle's have put a lot of history into our Family history. Thank You

I have always wanted to know about the place where I was born. It was exciting to find this website. All I knew about my birth was that I was the first baby born in 1953 in this hospital. My father was transfered back to the States when I was 13 months old, and I have never been able to visit my birthplace.
