A MESSAGE FROM ALAN HAVARD
President of Southport Rugby Union Football Club

September 2006

This year we welcome a new Chairman, Gordon Jackson who takes over the reins from Ed Fletcher. Ed has successfully seen through the first stages of the Club upgrading and remains as our Club Solicitor. Gordon is pressing ahead with the plans for the Clubhouse and new changing facilities and you will hear more about these during the season in the Chairman’s programme notes.

Whether you agree that we should have some continuity or not the result is that I am proud to remain your President again this year. While Gordon runs the Club I will be tackling the funding for the new extensions. The programme is very tight to get the grant applications prepared and approved by Summer 2007 but as always I can only do my best with your support.

On the field we look forward to an exciting season with both the 1st and 2nd XV in new leagues. The new Captains, Shane Cook and Rick Potter perhaps should invest in new maps or a sat. nav. system!! How will Don Devey our most loyal supporter ever find us!!

It is great to welcome back to the Club some former players and see many of the Colts progressing into the senior ranks. The Junior section goes from strength to strength under John Kenny’s leadership and I would recommend a Sunday morning trip to the Club to see the Colts in action.

So whether you are a player, committee member or patron we all have a role to play to help our teams progress upwards through the ranks while of course enjoying ourselves at the same time.
