Principal Lecturer in Sociology at Sheffield Hallam
University
I am responsible for teaching and organising social
theory in the Sociology Section at Sheffield Hallam University. I am
particularly interested in developing resource-based learning through
electronically mediated teaching and in researching student experience of
electronic forms. Research interests are largely in social theory including the
teaching of social theory, hermeneutics, critical theory. I am Programme Leader
for MA courses in Social Science Research Methods, Policy and Social Studies
and MSc Psychology. All three courses are offered on a full-time and part-time

am also acting Programme Leader for the undergraduate programme in Applied
Social Studies with degree courses in Applied Social Studies, Psychology, Social
Policy and Sociology. I am an experienced PhD supervisor.
My
background is as a teacher, youth worker, teacher educator. My publications are
primarily in journals and include reports on my PhD Study on young people with
special needs and more recently postmodern readings of contemporary youth work.
