HistoryCambridge Venture Management was formed in 1984 to provide hands on management support to emerging companies on a committed cost effective basis. The company has been instrumental in the launch of a large number of technology based companies, many of which would not have been able to raise the resources required without the help provided by CVM in formulating a winning business strategy and securing the management resources to carry it out successfully. CVM has often taken a risk-sharing approach to its clients, working on a contingent fee basis and taking profits in the form of a mixture of shares and fees, to keep the costs affordable whilst businesses are not yet financially strong. Having built up a number of successful clients to date, CVM is able to afford to invest management resource in companies in this way. To address the funding problems of early stage companies, CVM has developed a network of private investor contacts to meet the requirements most client companies have for investment, such companies generally being considered too risky for venture capital institutions. CVM is used to working in a risky but potentially rewarding business environment and has helped a number of more entrepreneurial executives to find suitable opportunities to harness their skills to the generation of wealth through capital gains.
