Sports personalities across Yorkshire and Humberside have been recognised in the 1996 Yorkshire Electricity Sports Achievement Awards at the annualFederation of Disability Sports Organisations (Yorkshire and Humberside)
Celebration Dinner, held on Saturday night at Elland Road, home to Leeds United.
All are honoured for their achievement in and contribution to sport for the disabled. Yorkshire Electricity has sponsored these awards for the second year as part of its well established 'Building On Ability' Programme which is designed to improve opportunities in sport, arts and leisure activities for the disadvantaged and people with disabilities.
Angela Gault, Yorkshire Electricity's Community Relations Manager said: "As a nation we love our sporting heroes but it is rare to see sports personalities with disabilities enjoying the limelight. That's something we think should change and one of the reasons why Yorkshire Electricity has supported and promoted disabled sports at all levels and for all disability.groups for the past five years. Every nominee is a winner in their own right and we wish them all continuing success."
