Although they have few natural enemies, sharks are hugely vulnerable to modern fishing methods.

More than 100 million sharks are killed by fishermen every year. Blue sharks alone are dying at the rate of six million a year. Most of these are destroyed indiscriminately by boats in search of other kinds of fish.
