Installation Tips

Connection of a mulifuel or wood burning stove to an existing chimney.
Before installation, the existing chimney must be swept and inspected for soundness.
In order to obtain maximum heat from the stove, it is preferable to place the stove as shown in sketch 1 and 2, thus situating the stove freely in the room to be heated.
If the stove (due to the hearth being of insufficient depth to accommodate the stove).needs to be installed as in sketch 3, it should be remembered that there will certainly be a noticeable loss of heat, if the distance from the top of the stove to the lintel is 12 inches or less

Flue.

The flue is one of the most important items of all. If any trouble should arise it will almost certainly be due to the flue.

If you wish to purchased a wood-burning stove, remember when the stove is running slowly, wood gases and tar are given off and not necessarily burnt to completion. Allowing the flue gases due to condensation in the chimney to penetrate the masonry of a unlined chimney.
If the only fuel you intend to burn is wood it is advisable to have the chimney lined with a proprietary flue liner.

VENTILATION

Air is Vital:

heating appliances whatever fuel they burn need to be able to"breathe" in order to

function efficiently and safely.

To 'breathe' they need a constant and sufficient flow of air, so the room must not

be completely air tight. If your home has draught-proofing or double glazing fitted

you may need vents or airbricks in an exterior wall of the room.

If vents or air-bricks are already there always ensure they are not blocked or covered.

FLUE CLEANING

To enable your appliance to 'breathe' efficiently it is absolutely essential that you

do not allow soot or ash to build up where it can hinder or prevent the free flow of

smoke and other products of combustion.

Flueways at the back of the boiler should be cleaned once a week. But always

remember to let the fire go out and allow ashes to cool before cleansing.

The throat plates at the top of the roomheater cleaned monthly.

Empty and check the ash can every day.

Have your chimney swept at least once every year, preferably before each winter.

Contact a recommended chimney sweep.
