The photograph above of Evan Christopher was taken at the full-house concert by Ron Buchanan.

My one purpose among others this time was to attend, to enjoy the delightful evening of intimate jazz in the traditional and classic style as advertised, rather than going to review the concert as I normally would have done.

Two of us travelled from Inverness by train to hear again clarinettist Evan Christopher (read my review of the Nairn 2006 Jazz Festival)
who played adventurously, superbly in the Bob Wilber Trio programme last year.

The vocals of Australian guitarist David Blenkhorn together with his exceptionally, thrilling playing technique in harmony with the youthful, New Orleansian clarinet virtuoso as in ending his concert – trad jazzed - during encore on perhaps - is one of, if not is the greatest of Robert Burns songs – Auld Lang Syne.

Although I was lucky enough to buy his CD entitled “Introduction – live at the Meridian” concert in Edinburgh, his rendition of “Stardust” here at the Little Theatre, Nairn, will be a recording implanted – unique – in my mind for life to come.
