A Brief History of the Club

In the 1930s, the premises housed a dance hall, and during WW2 it became the Feldman Swing Club which ran into the 40s, and then in the 50s it was the Humphrey Lyttelton Club.
Later it became the Jazz Shows Jazz Club headed by Ted Morton, managed by George Webb. At the end of the "Trad" boom in the 60s, it was about to close when the present proprietor, Roger Horton, stepped in to save it.The Club has witnessed many great American jazz artists of the past and although there are several British jazzmen of their equal still around, the jazz scene is presently not so buoyant, therefore the Club has had to diversify to keep going.Roger Horton has said of the younger supportive generation, "they're listening to jazz from a period they don't know much about."
That's a good omen.
