Our Public
In addition to articles on the choir and its individual members in both local
and national newspapers, the CBC receives many letters of appreciation - here are
a few.
Opera
Following five performances at London's Almeida Theatre and the Radio 3 broadcast of
his opera Snatched by the Gods, composer Param Vir wrote:
"I wanted to write to thank you for the participation of your choristers in my opera 'Snatched'.
Both [boys] did a fantastic job, and the music was impeccably delivered. I'm sure this is a fine
reflection on the excellent work you put into training them, and providing them with such a
positive and nourishing environment in which to love music."
Private Functions
From a letter received after a garden party at which our soloists performed:
"Your three boys stole the evening. Everyone was enchanted. Many congratulations on the results
of your hard work."
Weddings
Extracts from just some of the letters we have received:
"What a beautiful church service we had, and you and your choir contributed
so much to its splendour! Thank you very, very much!"
"I felt I must write and thank you and your boys for helping to make last
Saturday such a memorable day for my husband and me and all our family and guests.
Literally dozens of people commented on the singing, and we have had many, many
mentions in thank-you letters all this week."
"It is impossible to express in this letter the pure joy and pleasure given by
the superb singing of the Cambridgeshire Boys' Choir at the marriage service of
my son to N.... Many in the congregation have said how they longed for the singing
to go on forever! I must add - fine boys who have responded to your excellent
Directorship: you can be justly proud of them. The soloist, who sang with great
feeling, brought tears to eyes: 'Panis angelicus' was very moving throughout.
I now look forward to seeing and hearing the boys on television. My thanks to you
for all you did to make a happy occasion perfect!"
"We wanted to take the opportunity of dropping you a note to thank you for all your
efforts at our wedding. The choir really were quite superb. It was of course
quite difficult for us to take it all in on the occasion with everything seeming to
happen so quickly. However we have heard nothing but good reports from everyone we have
spoken to. I know a number of people were moved to tears by the singing and certainly
all were quite awestruck by the soloist. We really believe that had people not held
back due to the surroundings then you would have received a standing ovation and calls
for an encore. You have clearly dedicated much time to the choir and they truly are gifted
boys, you must be extremely proud of them and rightly so."
"Just a quick note to thank you and the choir for making our wedding so special for us. The
boys sang so beautifully and I know that most people had a lump in their throats. We have
received so many letters saying that it was the most beautiful service they had been to,
and this we feel was down to you."
"We often reflect on this really happy occasion, and the wonderful voices of the Boys' Choir.
I cannot remember ever hearing 'Pie Jesu' and 'Panis angelicus' sung so beautifully - one guest
remarked that it was like 'being in heaven'. Thank you to the boys who sang so beautifully,
and indeed to the whole choir for supporting and helping so splendidly with the service."
"I cannot begin to thank yourself and the Cambridgeshire Boys' Choir for making our daughter's
wedding service the most beautiful occasion. We have had letters sent and comments made with
remarks such as - perfection - I cried it was so moving - I thought I was in heaven! - and so on.
Every single boy sang excellently but the soloist was just wonderful. I cannot praise the choir
highly enough."
