Jim Montgomery (Sunderland)
Good to hear Jim
Montgomery talking to Peter Lorimer
on Radio Leeds on the eve of Scarborough's fourth round
home tie to Chelsea (23/01/04). Jim is Scarborough's
goalkeeping coach.
Peter joked that Jim's save in
the 1973 Cup Final has plagued him over the years, since
whenever anyone talks to him about football, their first
question is always, 'how did Jim Montgomery make that
save ?!'
Jim said that Peter had many
days, so he sholud be allowed that one, and Peter said
that with his powerful shot on target and Jim's excellent
save, allowing the underdogs to beat the much hated Leeds
United, they made the whole country happy...
Sadly, Sunderland's giant
killing result was not repeated by Scarborough, who lost
their tie with a respectable 1-0 scoreline.
