Clark on Clarke

Bob's 70-71 Pages was sent this by Michael Clark today ...

EX-ENGLAND STRIKER ON TARGET FOR SPORTS BALL Former England and Leeds United striker Allan Clarke will be a guest speaker at the sports ball at the University of Lincoln early next month. Mr Clarke will be presenting the club colours to commend players from the university's sporting teams including football, hockey and rugby. The event, organised by Antony Calvert, the Vice President of Sports and Recreation at the Students' Union Co-operative, is looking forward to welcoming the star.

"It's fantastic and very positive that we've managed to get such a high profile name to come to Lincoln," he said. Mr Clarke, who scored the winning goal in the 1972 FA Cup final against Arsenal, was a British record transfer in both 1968 and 1969 and was leading scorer at Leeds United for four consecutive seasons. He also has 19 full England caps to his name. The sports ball is to be held at the County Assembly Rooms in the Bailgate at 7.30pm on Tuesday 5th March.

The Bobby Moore Procedure

Football365.com reports ...

A team of footy-mad German scientists have named a breakthrough experiment after Bobby Moore.

The chemists have discovered a way to kick giant soccer-shaped molecules with laser beam pulses, opening up new avenues for the design of electronic devices.

Publishing the research, they dedicated their work to the late England captain who led his team to victory against Germany in the 1966 World Cup final.

The scientists, from Bielefeld University, named their discovery The Bobby Moore Procedure.

Chief researcher Dr Achim Muller said the way the molecules were sent flying was "quite extraordinary and quite beautiful".

The movement was powerful and accurate - like penalty kicks in a game of football.

"The light pulses behave like soccer players," Dr Muller added. "This means that the process is comparable with the action of a juggler or football player who is able not only to play artistically with one but even with several balls, up to five.

"Now we will call this The Bobby Moore Procedure in tribute to a fine footballer and honourable rival."

The work is published in the Royal Society of Chemistry's journal Chemical Communications, under the heading "Soccer Playing Metal Oxide Giant Spheres".

Moore died at the age of 51 in 1993 from bowel cancer.
