About Bob 70-71

- Know any others ??! Let me know and I'll include them on this page.

August 2001

Colin Waldron (Burnley) Very big thanks to Dave Allen who writes:

Colin is now a bookmaker - he owns Waldron Racing in Nelson, Lancashire.

Bobby Howe (West Ham United) And also big thanks to Paul O'Donovan who writes:

Howe is now head coach of the Portland Timbers.

Jan Peters (N.E.C.)A couple of months ago Stuart Bartow asked Jan Peters of Holland- scored twice v England Feb 1977 perhaps you have a way of finding out??

Here's the various replies I got from some Dutch friends to Bob's 70-71 Pages.

Marc Bogman:

As far as I know Jan Peters is coach of an amateur club called 'De Treffers'.
His son will play for NEC (Peters' first club) next year.

This was confirmed by Han van Eijden who helped spread the question to others.

P.V. Meggelen pointed out that there are two famous Jan Peters and L.Winch wrote:

Which Peters do you mean ? The Jan Peters that played for Feyenoord or the one from AZ, also known as Jantje Breed. In your languaes 'little Jan wide' because he never played a ball deep and to the centre strickers but always wide, so  he couldn't make a mistake.

Sounds like the Dutch version of Ray Wilkins / David Batty. I mean the Feyenoord one...

JelleVanhijfte initially wrote :

Yes, Jan Peters is training a amateur club just outside Nijmegen. I'll ask some other people which club it is.

Then wrote:

Jan Peters is now assistant trainer at TOP OSS, which is from Oss, as the name is saying. He has been there for 2 years (I did not know). But before that he has been training De Treffers from Groesbeek, a small village just outside Nijmegen. A small village but first class players, even more: hoofdklasse amateurs.

We call it Hoofd(=head)klasse, below that is our first class.

Can you still follow me?  so: Hoofdklasse eerste (first) klasse tweede klasse   etc

Anyway, Top Oss is playing in our First Division, which is not our First Division, since our First Divsion is our Eredivisie (= Division of Honour), in which Feyenoord etc is playing.

Why are we making it so hard on ourselves? But Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie (First Division) is all professional football.

Wow ! Thanks for all that everyone ! I see Jan is not on a site for Top Oss this season, so he may have escaped our grasp one more time !!

Jan's son Marc is now added to the Sons and Daughters page. As Marc Bogman pointed out, Marc Peteres has moved from Top Oss to N.E.C., Jan's club in the 70-71 season !

See NEC-Nijmegen.nl and Top Oss

Johan Neeskens (Ajax) Whilst looking Marc up, I saw that Johan Neeskens is presently the coach at N.E.C. According to their official site, Johan is also the Netherlands' Under-18 coach. (I think ... it was in Dutch).

See NEC-Nijmegen.nl

Thanks to Bob who told me ...

Roy McFarland (Derby County)
This old warhorse has now turned up as our Team Manager here at Torquay United .

Eddie Kelly (Arsenal)
Also here in Torquay & involved in local amat. Football is none other than Eddie Kelly , you recall the Arsenal Defender that scored in the FA Cup Final. Well he owns a local pub and turns out occ. for his Pub team .
