The August 7th, 1999, edition of Shoot!, the football magazine that people of my generation read when they were young (and still do in my case) celebrated the 30th anniversary of the magazine's publication. In the build up, readers were asked to vote for their top player of the last 30 years. I, of course, voted for Billy Bremner ... here's how everyone else voted.

So, how well did the 1970 -71 'World of Soccer Stars' players do ?

There is 21 players in the top 100,

8 featured by the magazine for being in the top 30,

and 3 in the top 10 including the no.1.

 

The 1970-71 season generally (i.e. including players not in the World of Soccer Stars album) has 26 players including 5 of the top 7 !

The list also included the sons of three 1970-71 stars: Michael Owen son of Terry Owen (Bradford), Jamie Redknapp son of Harry Redknapp, and Brian Laudrup son of Finn Laudrup (Wieiner Sportklub)
