Roberto
Rosato in the World Cup 1970 Final, Brazil vs Italy.
Rosato was marking Eduardo Gonçalves de Andrade
"Tostao".
Brazil won 4-1, but Tostao didn't score...
Roberto Rosato
was a famous Italian defender in '60's and '70's, he was
a classic player of Italian football-style in these
years.
In the first years of his career he played as half-back
in A.C.Torino and reached soon the Italian National Team,
aged 22, in Stuttgart (13-3-65) against West Germany. In
this friendly match Rosato had some troubles with German
forward Konietzka, and many German newspapers gave him
the nickname "killer".
Rosato played a defensive football and his most important
skill was the tackle, but he wasn't a bad player or a
"killer".
In '66 Rosato joined A.C. Milan and Nereo Rocco, his
former manager in A.C. Torino. At A.C. Milan, Rosato
played as full-back with Schnellinger, Malatrasi and
Anquilletti and he became one of the best Italian
defenders in his place.
In Mexico '70 World Cup he became the Italian team
stopper after Niccolai was injured in the first match
against Sweden and he played all the matches until the
final . His best game was the semi-final against West
Germany when he stopped German forward Gerd Muller until
the extra-time. When Rosato was substituted Muller scored
twice !
Rosato had many knee's troubles in his career and he left
A.C. Milan aged 30 in 1973 and played his last years in
F.C. Genoa.
Rosato won a "scudetto" in 1967-68, three
"Coppa Italia" (1964 A.C. Torino, 1972 and 1973
A.C Milan), a Cup Winners Cup (1967-68), a Champions Cup
(1968-69) and an Europe-South America's Cup (1969)
