| Bob 70-71 | - See magazines condensed to their 70-71 content !!
March 2001'Champions Weekly'. ITV 26 March 2001 Bob Rating: BB I don't know if this ever shown at a reasonable time, but I caught it at 12 am or so. One of the joys of shift work ... But it was really good. One of the more unexpected moments was an interview with Italy's Mazzola (Inter Milan). And he hasn't changed a bit ! I recognised him from his 1970 World Cup final appearance (Italy lost 4-1 to Brazil). Admittedly he looked older than his years in 1970 ... Mazzola was complaining that the current relaxed rules re forign players across Europe, means that there is no room for Italian youth players in the Italian League sides. This will be why they were a disastrous runners-up in Euro 2000, I suppose. This was
followed by a fabulous feature about Liverpool in Europe
in the Eighties. The theme was that Liverpool always had
unexpected goalscorers in their European Cup wins. There
was interviews with Alan Kennedy - Keith's brother (Newcastle United) - and Phil Neal (Northampton), who managed several of the
goals between them. Tommy Smith was another. Bob Rating BBB This review comes with special thanks to my brother, David, who phoned me up just to let me know it was on !!! The star of the show was Mick Channon and focused as much on his success in his second career as a horse trainer as it did his old one as an international footballer ! What a show. It was like a who's who (and still alive) of the 70-71 season. This isn't everyone, but I definately spotted : an 82 year old Ted Bates, Frank Worthington, Dave Watson (Rotherham United), Brian O'Neil (Southampton), Peter Rodrigues (Leicester City squad), Lawrie McMenemy (Doncaster Rovers manager), Peter Osgood, Kevin Keegan, Alan Ball, Francis Lee (Manchester City) and Dave Sexton (Chelsea manager). There was a picture of Don Revie up for a few seconds, and at least a mention of Terry Paine.. Apparantly, Mick bought his first horse, Kathy Jane, with Brian O'Neill, and it was Willie Carson that rode it to Mick's first ever win. For further March news ...
