Cruyff For Man United ?

One of the leading national Sunday newspapers lead with the story that Eric Cantona beilieved Johan Cruyff (Ajax) should be Manchester United's next manager after Sir Alex Ferguson retires. Johan himself said the media equivalent of,' bog off, there's no chance of me taking on that sinking ship'. Well that's how I saw it.

Since then, Sir Alex has attempted to belittle Eric by saying to the press that Manchester United's efforts at definding Eric Cantona's karate kick at a football supporter mid-match, cost them a Championship win - remember that one for an answer to a weak excuses quiz.

Sven-Göran's England Record

OkOk I'm a bit late with this now ... but just to say that Sven-Göran Eriksson (Karlskoga) has set a new record of winning his first five England matches in charge of the England team. England went to Greece and won 2-0 in the World Cup qualifier.

It was a crucial win that keeps alive England's chances of winning an automatic qualifacation place in the next World Cup Finals by becoming winners of their group. The next match against Germany will possibly now be the decider for the top spot. Whatever the outcome of that game, England still have an excellent chance of qualifying, even if it requires a play-off to get there - the reward for coming second in the group.

Wilkinson Out ?

It was not as good news for Howard Wilkinson's Under-21 side. They went to Greece and were beaten 4-1 ! Speculation abounds that Howard will lose his job. Howard does not intend to stand down at this point, however.
