Jason
Ferguson
Sir Alex Ferguson's son Jason
has been front page news for a month or so, due to
his dealings as a football agent, so I have added his
name to the Sons and Daughters page
Andy

Whilst
adding the 1970-71 details to the Leeds United page, I discovered that Garry Liddell's son
is currently a Wigan Athletic player - their current
longest serving player, no less. Hence I have begun
to track his career on this page.

In
fact the Linnets (Runcorn) gifted the home side

'keeper Andy Murphy received a back pass from
Steve Carragher and inextricably decided to
dribble the ball across the six yard box only for
the onrushing Paul Macari to take advantage and
force the ball into the net.

January 2004 Ian has a run of news worthy
incidents following his sending off last month. In a
highly forgetable 5-0 home defeat by Aston Villa, Ian
was attacked by a spectator. BBC SPORT Football Premiership Walker
escapes FA action
reports:
The
Football Association has revealed Leicester
keeper Ian Walker will not face action for
tussling with a fan.
Walker
shoved Andrew Price to the ground after the Foxes
fan ran onto the pitch to confront him during the
5-0 thrashing against Aston Villa.
Leicester
have since issued a life ban to Price, who has
apologised.
"Saturday's
incident was clearly unacceptable and we do not
want to see any repeat," said FA spokesman
Adrian Bevington.
"We
understand the individual who entered the pitch
was arrested and we now expect action to be taken
against him, which will see him banned from
entering all football stadiums.
"Thankfully,
these kind of incidents are very rare in our
stadiums.
"However,
all fans should note that entering the field of
play is an offence and can lead to criminal
convictions," he told the FA's website.
The
lifetime suspension against Price will start with
immediate effect, despite his full apology for
his actions at the Walkers Stadium.
"The
club notes the apology made by Mr Price but given
the seriousness of the incident had no option but
to apply a life ban," said a Leicester
statement.
"Steps
will be taken to ensure player safety won't be
further compromised.
"Of
paramount importance now is that everyone
connected with the club remains totally united in
our aim to maintain Premier status."
Price
apologised for his actions, telling the Leicester
Mercury newspaper: "I am so sorry. I'm
gutted about it. It was a stupid thing to do and
I regret it.
"I
was surprised I got that far and found myself
standing in front of Ian Walker in the penalty
box.
"When
I got to him I said I didn't think he was fit to
be a Premiership player. He told me to get lost
basically."
Walker
defended his actions, saying: "He came up to
me and was abusive and aggressive.
"I
tried to push him away and attempted to restrain
him while stewards came onto the pitch.
"Our
supporters have every right to make their
feelings known about our performance and I can
understand their frustration, but I don't think
acting in this way is going to help the
team."
Leicester
boss Micky Adams leapt to Walker's defence.
Adams
said: "I hope no action is taken against
Ian. First of all the fan shouldn't have been on
the pitch."
10
February 2004 Ian scores an own goal in the
home Premiership match versus Bolton Wanderers.
Unfortunately, the goal is shown several thousand
times on television much to his embarrasment, because
Bolton exploited a new off-side ruling from FIFA. Two
players stood deliberately off-side, at a free kick,
without interfering with play, then ran on-side once
the kick was take.
Bolton had
already tried it twice to no effect, but then on the
third time, Walker stopped the ball, fumbled it and
let it slip in behind him. As a result of this and
similar insidents, FIFA have re-ruled that
distracting off-sides are not now allowed.
The bizarre
goal came in the 75th minute and pulled the score
back to 1-1, which was the final result.
14
February 2004 Ian is not re-selected for the
England squad to play away to Portugal in a friendly
that forms part of the build up for Euro 2004. Ian
made the squad for the last game aganist Denmark and
has been capped 3 times previously, but his last game
was on 17 February 1997 against Italy. He was a Spurs
player at the time of all of his three caps.
