8
February 2003 Frank is called up into the 27
man squad for England v Australia
12
February 2003 Frank starts the England match
versus Australia at Upton Park. The game is notorious
for calling into question about the purpose of
friendly internationals not least because England
lost 3-1.
Also it is a
'game of two halves', as the whole team was
susbstituted at half time. Frank played the first
half which was a dismal 2-0 defeat, and the players
were booed offthe pitch.
This was
Frank's 8th cap at full international level, and the
first game for England this season. Overall Frank has
started 3 times and played in 4 different seasons. He
is yet to score at this level.

Community Shield played 1 scored 0, England -
Friendly played 2 scored 0 and European Championship
played 2 scored 1.
8
February Michael is called up into the 27
man squad for England v Australia.
12
February 2003 Michael was in the team that
played the first half of the England match versus
Australia at Upton Park. The players were booed off
the field for there dismal play.
It was 0-2 to
Australia when Michael went off and the fianl score
was 1-3. The media ran a debate about the future of
friendly internationals due to the half-heartedness
of the English display.
This was
Michael's 45th cap in his sixth season in the England
team ... and he's still only 23 ! He remains on 19
goals, which is the 18th best of all time, see England
Goalscorers for the
Top Twenty.
23
February 2003 Michael scores ! His 77th
minute goal away to Birmingham City was too little
too late as Liverpool lose 2-1. It was Michael's
first goal in 8 games in all competions, and the
first Premiership goal in 5 games.
Being 7 entire
matches without a goal is Michael's driest spell for
goals since March / April in 2000-2001 season, when
he also went 7 games without a goal.
2 March
2003 Michael is a member of the League Cup
winning side, as Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-0
at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. To add to the
achievement, Michael also scored the second goal in
the 86th minute.
This will go
some way towards making up for being named to sit on
the bench but not playing in the 2001 League Cup
victory for Liverpool versus Birmingham City.
Michael honours
now read:
FA Cup Winner in 2001 (scored 2 in Final),
League Cup winner 2002 (scored 1 in Final)
UEFA Cup winner in 2001,
Super Cup winner 2001 (scored 1 in Final)
FA Community Sheild 2001 (scored 1).
Pretty
impressive I would say.

18
February Ian featured with his wife Suzi and
step-children, in a documentary 'The Real
Footballers' Wives'. Suzi has previously presented on
TV and was one of the main stars of the show.
Suzi offered
some insight into life in the players lounge, Spurs
was quite formal, Leicester City very relaxed and not
at all bitchy (as long as you're wearing the correct
brand of jeans I guess- ?) She came across as quite
together with it all, above average wealthy, maybe,
but otherwise 'normal'.
Perhaps the
most poigniant moment was when both children said
that they had been unkindly teased about their Dad by
jealous friends. Their response is to say that Ian
was doing a better job of it than their Dads. Good
for them.
Suzi had a
refreshing lack of true footballing insight that
frustrates many of us with non-football supporting
spouses. Enough knowledge to converse with her loved
ones, but an obvious lack of spark that indicates a
full seeing of the light. I mean she 'feels' for Ian
when something goes wrong rather than swearing at him
for letting the side down as any self-respecting
devotee would do.
Natrually, Suzi
struggled with the offside law, that is a female
prerogative, but admitted she sometimes still forgot
that the teams had changed ends at half time... Has
she been talking to Mrs Bob 70-71, it is uncanny !?
And whilst at
Spurs Suzi revealled that prior to their marriage Ian
very nearly blew it all, attracted by the night life
and fast living. He split from Suzi and for 6 months
he lived a wild frenzied shallow existence, we all
crave, but know we don't want really, honest.
He realised the
errors of his ways ... and moved to Leicester a sure
fire way of avoiding excitement if ever there were.
(Mark complaints 'Leicester is fab' and include
tickets to exclusive shows and nightclubs, please).
Wedding bells
soon followed along with regular first team football.

also feature Mrs Allan Clarke - Margaret, see news.
