Owen
Captains England
What a man
! Due to the unfortunate injury to the England captain,
David Beckham, the England manager, Sven-Göran Eriksson (Degerfors) chose Michael Owen as his replacement. Micheal is
competing with Roy of the Rovers as the person whose
career most closely imitates fiction. Chosen as the
youngest England captain since Bobby Moore, in front of
his home Anfield crowd, he only went on and scored in the
third minute ...
In the
event the opposition, Paraguay, proved a pushover and
England won the tie 4-0. Michael has now been capped 34
times, scoring 15,including 5 in his last 4 games.
England have won 8 of the last 10 matches that Michael
has played in. Michael is number 23 on the all time list
of England goalscorers (click to see top
twenty).
In
addition to his England goal, Michael has scored four
more times in the Premiership since the last report ...

Further Michael News - As seen above, Michael
recieved his European Footballer of the Year trophy
before the Derby County match.Liverpool went on to win
2-0 and ... yes Michael got both goals in a 2-0 win,
which sent Derby County down.
Rich List - Michael
made 'The Sunday Times' Rich List this year. Whilst his
estimated 12 million is a few millions away from the Top
500 itself, Michael was placed =33rd in the '100 richest
young people' for those under 30.
A sub-list of 'Wealthiest young
sportsmen' had him at number 5. He was the 4th highest
footballer behind Manchester United stars David Beckham
(whose wealth included his wife, Victoria / Posh Spice),
Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane.
Front Page -Michael
made the front page of one of the first World Cup
magazines to be released so far. The 'Shoot Monthly
Special Issue - World Cup 2002' pictures a confident
Michael in an England shirt saying 'We're ready'. The
magazine itself leads with a fairly shallow 2 page
feature with Michael entitled,' Heaven Sent'.
Jamie Redknapp Moves !
At the end of the
season Jamie Redknapp will move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Jamie has never really succeeded in his efforts in
returning to first team football at Liverpool, so this
could be the big chance he needs to return to top flight
football.
Jamie has signed a four
year contract, and was released on a free transfer.
Jamie would almost
certainly have been in contention for the 2002 England
World Cup squad had it not been for his injury. As it is
he will have to settle for being a part of the BBC's
commentary team.

Frank Lampard
Once again Frank Lampard came on in the 68th minute for
his 7th cap in the 4-0 win over Paraguay at Anfield. Most
pundits believe he has not yet done enough to convince
Sven-Göran Eriksson to choose him for the World Cup
squad.
Steffen Iversen
Steffen won his 19th cap for Norway against Sweden in
Oslo. The friendly ended in a 0-0 draw, and Steffen stayed
on the pitch for the whole game.
Scot Gemmill Scot
played the first 47 minutes of Scotland's 1-2 home defeat
to Nigeria. It was 1-1 when he went off the field. It was
Scot's 19th cap and he has appeared in both of Berti
Vogts' teams to date.

2 April - plus updates
A brand
new feature comes to the 'Next Generation' page of the
site. Rather than making a fuss of individual goals, the
site will now have an update of every
player currently playing football. This will appear
at the end of the page.
This frees
me up to just report unusual items of news such as
transfers, international caps, advert appearences and the
like. I hope you enjoy all the new information, which I
think you'll agree remains utterly pointless !
