Clement Scores !

Neil Clement and West Brom have done it again ! West Brom have beaten their second Premiership club this season, and Clement scored a penalty in both games. Earlier in the month West Brom beat Sunderland 2-1 away in one of the round's few shocks. This time it was the turn of Sunderland. Their reward is a fifth-round home tie against Cheltenham of Division Three.

This happens in the month that West Brom footballing legend Jeff Astle has died. Jeff famously scored in every round of the Cup in 1967-68, he last time the club won the competition. (See News)

Close Up: Jamie Redknapp

Good to see Jamie's recovery to fitness described as part of the 'Close Up' series on Sky last Sunday. The hour long programme showed Jamie and wife, Louise, in their life outside of football and singing. See Review

What a Dog !

'He farts, he snores and he poos in front of famous people, but I wouldn't swap him.' says Louise Redknapp. Surprisingly she's not talking about husband, Jamie.

The quote comes from this week's 'Heat' magazine (20 January 2002, no.152) in the regular feature 'My Favourite ... Thing' pictured alongside her pet bulldog, Winston. The photo shows Winston making a remarkable impression of Louise. Winston is at home in Gucci as he is on the set of 'SM:tv', the well timed dump was in front of Chris Evans and the diners at celebrity restaurant, Zilly Fish. Nice one Winston, you've done your country proud.

'Heat' seem to have taken to Louise of late, in issue 150, the top 25 sexiest celebrities were named and Louise was number 15 female. The increase in publicity may be due to Louise embarking on a UK tour, which runs from 28 January to 15 March.

Goals Update.

As far as I can see there are just two to report from last Saturday, but they do include young Michael, again. Michael was also the star of a Sky t.v. documenatry on his life, called 'Close Up'. See Reviews.

Owen Update

Michael Owen is everywhere at present...

Match The 5 January 2002 edition, the first of 2002 once again featured Michael along with the headline 'Owen ! The 2001 diary of Europe's best player !' It's a great article, too, covering 4 pages with 12 incredible months in his career.

In fact, Michael has been on every front cover of the year, although the two following issues shows him in as one of a number of players.

The 12 January edition has Michael as one of a dozen players advertising its article on the 50 greatest players in the World. Michael was only given 5th place, but was the highest place Englishman behind 1.Andriy Shevchenko, 2 Rivaldo, 3 Luis Figo and 4 Zinedine Zidane.

The 19 January edition has Hasselbaink as the main picture and Michael as one of 5 smaller pictures advertising an article in which Jimmy Floyd assesses his striking rivals in the Premiership. 'Match' believes Michael will finish as the seasons 4th highest scorer.

Front page. Michael is on the front cover of the January 2002 edition of 'World Soccer' and the February 2002, no.90 edition of 'FourFourTwo'. In the latter there is a fabulous article in which he describes in detail every one of his goals for England. (See January 2002 Review). I've also only just noticed that Michael is on the back cover of this year's 'Shoot!' annual. David Beckham gets the front cover.

Trading cards. And there's more... The FA Premier League 'Football Champions Trading Card Game', which sells in newsagents, club shops and toy shops, features Michael on one of four designs for the booster packs. The game is produced by Wizards of the Coast, the same people that brought us Pokemon, and is an official Premier League product.

In similar vein, the Official FA Premier League Sticker Collection for 2002, also has Michael as one of the four players featured on the front of the sticker book and every pack of stickers. This is a straight forward collection similar to the one that this whole site was originally based on.

Finally on this one, 'Top Trumps' - a game that was the 'Gameboy' of my youth, and from which Pokemon doubtless evolved, has a football edition. Michael is one of the stars included, you'll be thrilled to know. See more at www.playaday.com

Holsgroves Unite !

Lee Holsgrove - John Holsgrove's son (Wolverhampton Wanderers) has joined brothers Peter and Paul at Hayes ! His debut at home to Dover in the Conference League was a strange affair. All three brothers started the match, but only one finished after Peter scored then was substituted, and Lee was sent off ! Lee moved from the Ryman Premiership side Aldershot on 4 January this year.

Mann Loaned

Neil Mann - Arthur Mann's son - of Hull City has been loaned to conference side a bit further down the coast at Scorborough. It began on the 14 January 2002. Scarborough are bottom of the Conference League at present, but still very much in touch with the teams above them. Neil is on a month's loan as he aims to get fitness following an injury.

One in Six !

As chance would have it I missed goals by the Next Generation stars in two six goal thrillers. Paul's match was back in November, and Steffen's was last month. So far it's both players' only goal of the season.

Allens All In

Bob's 70-71 Pages finally caught up with a number of Allen offspring. Hence, the site now includes Clive and Bradley Allen - sons of Les Allen (QPR manager); Martin Allen - son of Dennis Allen (AFC Bournemouth); and Paul Allen - nephew to Les and Dennis.

Of these five players, only Bradley has played in the current season, for Grimsby Town. In fact he's scored twice, so here's a quick update on those goals. Bradley's last game was in November.
