Generation Goal
Update
5 goals
from the weekend to report including the first time (that
I can remember) that 2 Next Generation stars have scored
for the same side in the same match since I began
reporting.
Strangely, all three of the rest were scored in the last
minute of their respective games !

Dick's Daughter
Thanks to
my athletics following friend, Tim, Dick Krzywicki's (Huddersfield Town) daughter, Tara has been added
to the pages. Tara it seems is a Welsh football
international herself, but is now a member of the UK
athletics squad. Tara runs the 3,000 m steeplechase. By
way of occupation Tara is a fitness adviser to the Notts
Fire Service.
Tara is
only the sixth daughter presently on the site - and one
of those is a fictional character...
British Athlete Biographies offers the following
information ...
A Welsh soccer international
(6 caps on the wing), like her father Dick, she
started running to keep fit for football, joining
Charnwood in 1997. She soon came to the fore, winning
the Midland and British Universities cross-country
titles and taking third place in the national despite
a bad stitch in her first season of 1997/8.
On the track in 1998 she
made steady improvement and was distinctly
unfortunate not to be selected for the Commonwealth
Games after 3rd at 5000m and 1st at 10,000m at AAA
Championships. In 1999 she won the Reebok Cross
Challenge series and the British Universities
cross-country title, and also ran solidly for second
in the Trials, finishing strongly as usual, before
44th in the World Championships.
On the track she set two
British bests for 2000m steeplechase, first 6:40.95
(over 3ft barriers) to win the British Universities
title in May and then 6:38.10 (2' 6" barriers)
at Loughborough in August. She took 1:32.49 off her
10,000m best with 33:04.55 for 19th place at the
European Challenge, but did not finish at this
distance at the World Student Games, where she was
7th at 5000m.
In 2000 Tara won a brilliant
cross-country double with the UK/CAU race and then
the National two weeks later. She was also Midland
champion and retained the Reebok Cross Challenge
crown. On the track she took 1.61 secs off her
British best for 2000m steeplechase and at Stretford
on 5 September she set a UK and Commonwealth record
for 3000m steeplechase with 10:08.11.
2001
Form
Tara started the cross-country season with a
win at the first Reebok Challenge meeting in October,
followed by 4th in Birmingham and second at Margate.
She also ran the fastest leg at the ECCA Relays. With
20th place she was Britains third finisher to
ensure team silver in the European CC. She continued
a busy racing schedule in 2001 with wins in the
Leicestershire and Midland Championships, second
places at Cardiff and Belfast and third in the
CAU/Trial race, taking second place in the Reebok
Cross Challenge series 2000/01. She then had her best
run yet at the World Championships and was 20th in
the European Challenge 10,000m in 33:50.79. She ran a
16:02 leg on the last leg of the National 6-stage
Road Relay to come from 51 seconds down to take
Charnwood to a 2 seconds victory. At the Loughborough
International she took nearly seven seconds off her
British best for 2000m steeplechase with 6:29.79,
second to Irene Limika (Kenya) and in the Norwich
Union Challenge at Glasgow she improved her UK and
Commonwealth record for 3000m steeplechase with
9:52.71 in 2nd place.
Summerbee Returns to City
Nicky
Summerbee is back at the club that the Summerbee name is
associated with the most, Manchester City. Nicky was
unfairly given a hard time by City fans before moving
away to Sunderland in October 1997. He subsequently went
to Bolton Wanderers, but was given a free transfer back
to City on 6 September 2001. The contract is for just
three months, and he has not yet played for the first
team.
Nicky has
the dubious honour of being conceived during the 70-71
season !

Elgin City are struggling this season, Ian

More Moves
and Goals.
Three
players on the move to report.
The
Holsgroves. Firstly Peter and Paul
Holsgrove, have left Slough Town and are now at Hayes.
Internet information is a little confusing on the matter,
but it seems that both players were Slough players at the
start oof the season, Peter having moved there from
Wycombe Wanderers, and Paul from Barry Town. Paul had
even played in an early stage of the European Cup whilst
in his days with the Welsh team.
Paul's
list of teams now reads: Aldershot, Wokingham, Luton
Town, Heracles, Millwall, Reading, Grimsby Town (loan),
Crewe Alexandria, Stoke City, Brighton and Hove Albion,
Hibernian, Airdrie (loan), Darlington, Barry Town, Slough
Town, Hayes !
Peter's
career so far I believe is Wycombe Wanderers, Slough
Town, Hayes.
Their
brother, Lee is presently still with Aldershot, having
previously been with Millwall, Wycombe Wanderers and
Boreham Wood (loan - before establishing himself with
Aldershot).
Peter has
now scored twice this season once for Slough Town and
once for Hayes. The Official site said the players had
moved on because they needed to be a 'better standard'.
However, although Hayes are at the relegation end of the
Conference League, there are no two divisions higher as
Slough Town are in the Ryman Division One.
Ian
Lawson has moved on from Stockport
County where he had a disappointing time last season.
He's moved down the road back to Bury, the club that sold
him to Stockport for 150,000 pounds. Ian played 25 games
for Stockport County - including 11 as substitute - all
in Division One, scoring 4 times. At his last spell at
Bury, Ian he played 25 League games scoring 11, plus 7
other games with one further goal.
Bury are
presently bottom of Division Two, but Ian and has already
opened his scoring account when he scored in the 93rd
minute of his 4th game.

World Cup News
There's a
disappointing unlikelyhood of any Next Generation
presence in the England versus Greece World Cup Qualifier
at Old Trafford today.
Michael Owen - Terry Owen's son (Bradford
City) - is
injured (see September 2001 News).
Frank Lampard - Frank
Lampard
senior's son - has been left out following his
indiscipline off the pitch (see September
2001 News).
Sven-Göran Eriksson (Degerfors) has stated the
importance of being professional at all times, and Frank
says he accepts this stance.
Ian Walker - Mike Walker's son (Watford) - has once again been
draughted into the England squad late following the
injury to England's number one, David Seaman. Initially,
David was unsure about his fitness so there was no place
for Ian, but he dropped out late on and Ian came in. As
England's third goalkeeping choice, he's unlikely to even
make the bench for the match itself.
