Further Michael Owen news - Author of children's books, Alan Gibbons, has written another football book which includes Michael Owen in the title. It was released on 16 August.

See Amazon.co.uk At a glance Julie, Me and Michael Owen Makes Three which offers the following synopsis:

Part One: Mad About the Girl, or Phil Neville's Lunge Part Two: Wanting the Girl, or Michael Owen's Hair Part Three: Getting the Girl, or David Beckham's Knee Part Four: Losing the Girl, or Theatre of Dreams

The day Terry sees Julie in the gym for the first time is the day of the England vs Romania match - the latest of the Great English Disasters - and the day his father announces that he's going to walk out. Things couldn't be worse. Only they could.

Gorgeous Julie is a Liverpool fan. Even if he could summon up the courage to speak to her, Terry has a problem. This is Terry's diary as he tries to cope simultaneously with first love, the unexpected break-up of his parents' marriage, and the traumas of the Beautiful Game.

A lighthearted, fast-paced, bang-up-to-the-minute and totally credible account of a 15-year-old boy who worries that he looks like Chris Evans, it is Alan Gibbons at his best and most readable.

Jamie Redknapp

Jamie has played in the first team again at last, not only that but he has now scored also. Jamie's first game was in Liverpool's 2-1 home victory in the Premiership against West Ham United, when Michael Owen scored a brace. The goal came in the next match in the Champions League qualifier. Welcome back Jamie !

Ian Gilzean

The last this site heard of Ian Gilzean was when he scored goals in the Irish Cup Final 2000 for Glentoran See May 2000 News. Well he's back in Scottish Football again and scoring goals galore in the Bell's Third Division side Elgin City. Ian is now 31 years old and has signed on a year's contract.

According to www.soccerbase.com Ian's last two clubs have been Sligo Rovers and St Patrick's Athletic, which makes no reference to Glentoran, so I'm not sure what's going on there. Anyway it seems Ian was signed from Sligo Roverson 20 August 2001.

Owen Scores - For Charidy, But Not For England

Non-enity of a competition, maybe, but Liverpool fans are barely contain themselves at having won their fourth trophy in 6 months. The Charity Shield match is the traditional start of the season. Only this season it's Liverpool's second senior match and the Nationwide League played their first fixtures the day before, as they couldn't be a**ed (asked?) to wait.

The fixture, that matches last season's FA Cup winners against last season's Premier League winners, saw Liverpool beat Manchester United 2-1. Michael Owen scored once again, giving him a 100 per cent record of scoring in games in the 2001-2002 season.

This record came to an end, though, when he failed to score for England versus the Netherlands in a friendly last night. Held at White Hart Lane, it was 2-0 to the visitors. Michael came on for the second half only for what is his 30th cap. As both goals were in the first half, the score whilst he was playing was 0-0 !

- Incidentally Michael is currently on Sky telly adverts promoting a subutteo-like table football game. I didn't catch what it is called, but he's already being seen every day sponsoring 'Sporties', the mini-Shredded Wheat breakfast cereal.

Lampard Capped.

Frank Lampard - Frank Lampard senior's son - was capped for his first time since his move to Chelsea. Like Michael Owen he played just the second half of the match v the Netherlands, so though the team lost 2-0, his half of the match had a 0-0 scoreline. It was Frank's thir cap overall, and the first time he hasn't won in an England shirt !

Clement Scores !- In Midlands Derby

West Brom's Neil Clement became the second Next Generation star to score this season. This was Neil's 6th goal in 46 League games for West Brom, and came on the openning day of the 2001-2002 season. The Midlands derby was Walsall's first game in Division One since promotion, and the goal did not prevent the newcomers from winning.

Louise Swears On TV !!!

Good to see Louise - Harry Redknapp's Daughter-In-Law - on 'Patrick Kielty Live' last week, 11 August 2001. The show is broadcast live from Belfast then repeated in the early hours of Sunday morning. Louise was the second guest after Michael Greco and was on for a full 15 minutes.

Apparantly Louise is obsessively tidy, and was teased by Patrick who threw litter about to see if she would need to pick it up.

He also made much of the contrast in Louise's career, whereby she can be voted as No.2 sexiest female in 'FHM' magazine (in 1999), yet still have a squeaky clean image. Patrick asked if she sometimes would really like to swear live on television, then gave her an opportunity to do so. The broadcast to the tv public was silenced by a bleeper that Louise activated herself, but her voice could still be heard by everyone in the audience. Whilst we obviously didn't get to hear what Louise said, it certainly made the audience laugh.

The appearance on the show was due in part to Louise wanting to launch her new single, 'Stuck in the Middle with You'. the old Stealer's Wheel hit that reached number 8 in the UK charts in 1973. Little more was ever heard of Stealer's Wheel, but the song rose to prominence again when it was used to such good effect in the film, 'Reservoir Dogs'.

In a scene that is the closest I've ever come to needing to walk out of the cinema, the song plays its jolly way, whilst a torturer dances to it and slashes his victim's ear off with a cut-throat razor. Nice. Substituting the victim with a male model, the video promoting Louise's song has her playing the role of the torturer in a mock up of the famous ... er ... clip.

Louise said that how ever flattering she may find it, she would rather be number 2 in the pop charts than number 2 in any sexy woman chart. So, good luck with the single !

See BBC Northern Ireland - Patrick Kielty - Home Page where the whole interview can be watched and there's a backstage interview. From the site I see that Sir Alex Ferguson is a previous guest on the show !

Also FHM.com - FHM magazine is presently showing Louise's 1996 video for 'Naked' as part of their feature on the 100 sexiest ever videos.

Jamie Stays on the Bench

Jamie Redknapp - Harry's son - was chosen for the first team for the first time since his injury last season, when he selected for Liverpool's Charity Shield tie against Manchester United. The side won the match, but Jamie didn't play.

Owen Scores - Hatrick !

What a start to Liverpool and Michael Owen's new season. picking up exactly where he left off, Michael scored a hatrick against FC Haka from Finland. Orginally Liverpool were due to play Maccabi Haita from Israel, but they were disqualified due to fielding a player who was serving a ban.

Another piece of news about Michael. 'Match' - the magazine that like to feature him on their front cover so often, and has been on their back cover for three weeks or more in the 'Sporties' advert - awarded Michael their Super Striker of the year award for 2001. The poll was made in association with Nickelodeon. Michael got 84,545 votes, the nearest rival was Thierry Henry with 41,886. Leeds United's Mark Viduka was third.

This is a turn around from all the other magazines, which ran their polls before the season was out. As Michael had an average mid-season he barely made their top fifties. That was all turned around last May, when Michael had a month he'll be lucky to match in his career again.
