Yes ! Sir Alex Ferguson leading goalscorer for Falkirk in the 1970-71 season is the first ever winner of the 70-71 Top Bob Award ! In a free vote carried out over the month of May, Fergie ran away with the lead from day one and ultimately secured 58 % of the total vote - which was 45% more than his nearest rival, Kevin Keegan. Sir Alex's runaway Premiership win with Manchester United no doubt convinced the site's visitors to vote for him as the person from Bob's 70-71 pages to have achieved the most in 1999-2000 season.
This year's 70-71 Special Bob Award nominated by the webmaster himself goes to Eddie Gray of Leeds United. Earlier in the season, I asked Eddie for a photo - the camera didn't work first time, and he patiently hung around for a second attempt ! Thanks Eddie and well done. Three Lions. A Bob's70-71 pages 'must-see' is coming up on the 6th, 7th, and 8th June this week. It's a behind the scenes documentary of the England football team. I gather the first episode of three will cover 1966-1973. Each episode is 50 minutes long and the first one kicks off at 22-45 hours. I for one will be setting my video... See Football365
Well the BBC flagship footie highlights programme, which has been on air since ... oh forever, pre 1970-71 anyway (35 years I'm told), is at risk because ITV out bid them to the rights. Not even the keenest eBay UK auctioneer could have afforded the price, it seems. See BBC News UK BBC Sport reels from fresh blow for the story and BBC News FOOTBALL Match of the Day in pictures for a nostalgic look at the programme.
