Bob and
1970-71 Footballers is moving!
Due
to the intransigence of dial.pipex it has become
necessary to move the site for the first time in its 8
year history.
Bare
with me whilst the move is being made, I'm trying to do
it as quick as I can, but I am allowing myself 6 months
to complete the process.
Consequently
there are going to be NO MORE UPDATES on this original
site. And in the month of the site's 9th birthday it will
cease to exist at all
Please
now visit www.bob7071.co.uk
See
you there!

magazine available this month

This
month's first edition of Back Pass
a new football history magazine has a feature on the
1970-71 season!

Bob and
1970-71Footballers moves to a new location for
the first time since the very first page was put on the
net on 4 April 1999.
One of the main problems
is that I'm running out of webspace provided by
dial.pipex, and secondly that they still charge me as
much for my old creaking dial-up service now as they did
back then, which is actually more than their service to
current broadband users.
Up to now I've been paying
it just so the site does not have to move, but frankly
any attempt to negotiate with them has been essentially
useless. I've been given an indifferent, rude, and
utterly negative response, completely at odds with the
many years of loyalty I have given to them.
At least I can use their
own webspace to slag them off, eh?!!!
Anyway, recently I started
up a new account, which is less than ideal in terms of
keeping control of how the site looks and works, but does
have double amount the webspace, and is, well, free...
As a consequence, there
will be virtually no active updates on this site now
until i cancel my account with them on the site's ninth
birthday.
But don't worry. Normal
update service will be provided at www.bob7071.co.uk.
Whilst making the
transition a lot of the links will no longer be active
for a while, but don't worry, a full service will be
provided as soon as soon as possible.
So farewell then
dial.pipex and hello www.bob7071.co.uk.

The
Management Merry-Go-Round...
It's been
a busy time since the start of the season for Bob 70-71
Pages' Players and their offspring who ply their trade as
club manager...
Mick
Docherty (Burnley)
had been last heard of by this site when he left Burnley
for the third time in his career in June 2004. It seems
that n January 2006 he became Ronnie Jepson's
Assistant Manager a post he was still in at the start of
this season.
After
a poor start in League One this season, Ronnie
resigned and Mick was raised to the position of joint
caretaker manager along with first-team coach Iffy Onuora
on 10 September 2007.
Mick said he
was hopeful of getting the full-time post, but
results did not go the club's way. On 8 October, 2007
Gillingham lost 5-0 away to Swindon Town and Mick
left the club two days later. He was jointly in
charge for 5 matches, which included 2 wins, 2 loses
and a draw.
On 2
October 2007, John Ward (Lincoln
City) resigned
his long standing post as manager of Cheltenham Town and
joined Carlisle United. John joined Cheltenham Town back
in November 2003 and at the time of leaving was the 9th
longest serving manager of a League side. He helped the
club wim promotion last season.
He
left for Carlisle United as he believes this will
increase his chances of managing a Championship side.
Certainly the side he is leaving were one off the
bottom of League One when he left, whilst the side he
is joining are in the play-off zone of the same
division. In the process he has won a four year
contract for himself.
Peter
Taylor (Southend) left Championship side Crystal
Palace on 8 October, 2007 due to the club's poor start to
the season. After 10 games they have picked up just 10
points and are currently placed 19th in the league. Peter
had been the manager for 16 months.
Peter has
previously managed Hull City, Southend United, Dover
Athletic, Gillingham, Leicester City and Brighton and
Hove Albion. He also managed England in a caretaker
role for one match, a 1-0 defeat against Italy in
2000, when David Beckham was captain for the first
time. (See http://news.bbc.co.uk)
His
departure has made way for the grand return of Neil
Warnock (Rotherham United) who left Sheffield United
after their unfortunate relegation from the
Premiership last season. He was appointed on 11
October, 2007.
On 8
October, 2007, Willie Donachie (Manchester City) left his manager's post at Millwall along with
assistant manager Pat Holland (West
Ham United).
Willie took over the full manager's role just under a
year ago when they were bottom of League One. He helped
them up to the season's final position of 10th, but
leaves with them back on the bottom in the new season.
Next Generation News
Gary
Megson - son of Don
Megson (Bristol Rovers)- has finally returned to
football as the manager of. Leicester City as replacement
for Martin Allen - son of Dennis
Allen (Bournemouth) - who so mysteriously departed
the club under a cloud.
Martin
became the Leicester City manager in a blaze of glory
in May 2007, but left on 29 August 2007 after just
three League matches, plus an abandoned League Cup
game. It seems Martin did not get on with club Chairman, Milan Mandaric.
Gary took over
the role on 13 September 2007, which was his first
role as a club manager since February 2006.

Apologies for the slight
break in service caused entirely by the new football
season kicking off. As I am my son's football team
manager it has been difficult finding the time to update
the site, but things seem to have settled down a bit.
700 + Club has now been updated to include
this season
Likewise
the England League Club Appearance Records chart has been updated.
