Promoted in 1967, Coventry were the third longest survivors in the top division (behind Arsenal - 1919, and Everton - 1954) until they were relegated in 2000-2001. In spite of this they never surpassed the 6th place they achieved in the 1969-70 season.Hence, this 1970-71 squad is amongst Coventry City's finest ever. Only the F.A.Cup win of 1987 could definately be considered a greater achievement (see Coventry Football Club official WebSite). On the way to that victory they beat Billy Bremner's Leeds United in the Semi-Final in a thrilling end to end game. But that was a time of English teams being banned from European competition, so the 1970-71 Fairs Cup campaign remains Coventry City's only visit into any European Competition.Only the oldest Coventry City fans will remember a promotion year rather than a relegation battle. Unfortunately, for now it seems that Coventry City have replaced the end of season survival battles, with end of season promotion misses !World of Soccer Star Players ... Manager: Noel Cantwell.
